Prawn here to show you how to upgrade your AMD CPU. If you're thinking about swapping to a newer and better AMD CPU and how that might improve your system then this video has a few tips to help you do so.

Here I'm swapping from an AMD Ryzen 7700 X CPU to a newer Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU. This process is fairly easy, but a BIOS update might be necessary and a few other things too.

It's worth knowing what your motherboard is, what CPUs it will support and what your options are in terms of upgrading.

Here are some tools I'd recommend:

Use CPU-Z to check what your motherboard is if you don't know already. This will also help you find what version BIOS you're running. So you can see if you need to update that.

PC Part Picker can be useful if you aren't sure what your options are in terms of what CPUs are compatible with your motherboard. Once you've got the motherboard model number from CPU-Z, put it into PCPartPicker and then you can choose compatible CPUs. Note that it might not show you the best prices but it does give you ideas on CPU options:

If you know the motherboard model you can also head over to the motherboard manufacturer's website and look at the support pages. There you should find a list of supported CPUs, hopefully with newer models listed and easy to see.

From there, the process should be straightforward, though as I show you might need to update your BIOS first.
