To use one Joy-Con controller instead of two on your Nintendo Switch, follow these steps:

Power on your Nintendo Switch by pressing the Power button on the top edge of the console.

Navigate to the home screen without opening any games or apps.
Select the Controllers icon along the bottom edge of your display. It’s the third circular button from the right, just to the left of the general Settings icon (which looks like a cog).


In the Controller Menu, you’ll see information about battery power for your console and controllers. Be sure to check each controller’s battery level.
Unlock the left Joy-Con from the console by pressing the black button on the back of it. Push up on the controller to fully detach it from your system.

Do the same for the right Joy-Con—press the button on the back and push it up and out of the slot.
On the left Joy-Con, press the SL and SR bumper buttons at the top. Wait for it to appear in the list of controllers.

Repeat the same process for the right Joy-Con.
Press the A button to confirm your new controller configuration.
If you have the Joy-Con straps, attach them to the top of your controllers for a more tactile button surface.

Hand the second Joy-Con controller to your friend or family member.
Open your favorite game and select a two-player mode from the menu.
Now you can enjoy multiplayer gaming without investing in additional Joy-Cons! Remember that you can always switch back to single-player mode when needed12. Happy gaming! 🎮👾
