Tutorial on how get Darkplaces Engine installed in Linux to play Quake 1. Video Tutorial demonstrated in Ubuntu 13.04.
You'll need the following Applications to extract .PAK files and CD Audio from original CD:
DOSBox
A CD Transcoder, e.g. soundconverter
Bulk file renamer (optional), e.g. pyRenamer

Ubuntu install commands:
sudo apt-get install darkplaces dosbox soundconverter pyrenamer

Instructions:
With DOSBox mount C: and D: drives
mount c /path/to/install
mount -t cdrom d /media/cdrom
Install Quake 1

With your file manager
Copy .WAV files from CD to Quake/id1/sound/cdtracks

Convert .WAV files to .OGG
Rename them to: track002.ogg, track003.ogg, etc...

To run Darkplaces:
either navigate to the Quake Folder then type "darkplaces" in Terminal
or type "darkplaces -basedir /path/to/quake" from any location.
