How to Wavedash out of Shield with 1 Button - Melee/PM
In this guide I explain how even if you use one trigger button (the R or L buttons) for both shielding and wavedashing, you can still do crisp wavedash out of shields using my method. Essentially, you shield all the way without "clicking" the R or L button down, then you simply can press jump and "click" the trigger down to wavedash. This also works with the light shield.

FAQ:
Q: I keep jumping?
A: You are clicking the button too early after pressing X or Y.
Q: I keep rolling sometimes while doing this?
A: To prevent this, lift your finger a bit before "clicking" the trigger down. I do this to prevent myself from "clicking" the trigger down too early, which causes a roll.
Q: Does this work in Project M?
A: Yes, it does! Unlike Brawl, PM allows you to shield without clicking the buttons down, so it works.
Q: So does this mean I should get in the habit of shielding without clicking the triggers down?
A: Yes, it takes a bit of getting used to, but it is FAR easier than starting to use a different button to wavedash or shield!
Q: Is this better than using both triggers?
A: No, the best method is whatever you are most comfortable with. Shielding with one trigger and wavedashing with the other is just as efficient. My method is very useful if you already only use one trigger for everything, as learning to use two can be difficult after years of muscle memory.
