I’ve never been a big fan of horse riding in video games. Some of my earliest experiences with it from the likes of Skyrim and Assassin's Creed Two always felt far too janky to be used regularly. This led me to traverse these worlds almost entirely on foot. I’ve played Skyrim an obscene amount of times but due to my unwillingness to use horses, I've maybe only purchased a handsome steed three or four times. It wasn’t until Red Dead Redemption 2 that I found myself in love with an experience I never thought I could come to love. Everything from treating our gallant mare tremendously well to the lack of a specific mechanic that i’ve come to hate. So much so that if I see this in any game, more specifically open world titles I’ll instantly have it lower in my faith in the experience. The journey to finding a horse riding system that I adore didn’t come easy, and for the most part started with frustration. So today I wanted to take you on that journey, so grab a cup of tea, sit back and relax as we discuss the world of horse riding in gaming.
