Struggling to Get Immersed As I age
3,817When I was a kid it felt like no matter the game I was playing I could become fully involved in it. Nothing else mattered. I would roam around the Unova region in pokemon black and white and just love my time in that location. I wouldn’t be thinking about anything else outside of Pokemon and what I was doing in that moment in the game. When I got into games like Skyrim I found myself enthralled by the world, the stories and could lose myself for hours on end in the world of Tamriel just enjoying every moment. As i’ve gotten older i’ve found games harder than ever to fully immerse me or keep me dialled into what's happening in the gaming world and disconnect me from reality. That is the feeling we are after more than anything, the main focus of entertainment is to immerse us and take us out of our own lives for just a couple of hours. The only game that was able to do this for me in the last 5 years was Red Dead Redemption 2 as I was so amazed by the story being told and wanted to continue seeing where it would lead. I want to try and understand with you why this feeling is one I struggle with, as I feel it’ll be something you will find value in as someone dealing with this same issue. The first place I want to start with is understanding the games that would immerse me and what they had in common or did so well that they kept my attention.
