How YOU Should ELIMINATE the Dragonfly! (Don't Starve Together Guide Redo)
1,183The Dragonfly is a raid boss found in the desert by the magma pools, with the right set up, she is easy to eliminate solo.
There are currently two effective ways to set up the fight, both relying on the same bug.
Method #1, my preferred method, is to find the magma pool that is furthest from the rest, and build a long wall along both sides of it. The Lavae think the magma pool is an entrance through the walls, so they try to go through it, and won't go around. Meaning you only have to fight the dragonfly.
Method #2: Build an X shape out of walls, and put statues in the middle. The Lavae will think they can walk through the statues, and get stuck, meaning you only have to fight the dragonfly. This design requires you find a spot far enough away so that when the Dragonfly spawns Lavae, they get stuck in the X design, but it also has to be close enough so that the Dragonfly doesn't fly away mid fight.
Method #1 is safer than Method #2, but Method #2 takes much less resources, and time to set up.
Now that the set up is out of the way, into the Dragonfly's stats. The Dragonfly has 27,500 HP, and deals 75 damage a hit, she can be stunned if 1,250 damage is dealt in under 5 seconds, each successive stun after that requires an extra 250 damage per 5 seconds. If she takes 2500 damage while stunned, she will drop an extra scales. At 22,000 HP, 13,750 HP, and 5,500 HP, she will leave to spawn Lavae at the magma pools. There is a bug that can cause her to skip a phase, delay a phase, or even add a phase, if you do a lot of damage, which can be very annoying.
When all Lavae are dead, she will become enraged, which can be reverted by using the pan flute on her. If you don't eliminate the Lavae, they will eliminate themselves after 30 seconds. Also, the Dragonfly is kitable, but is one of the hardest enemies to kite, due to her ability to attack and move at the same time, to kite her, do 6 hits, move a little bit away, wait until she starts winding up a hit, and run. If she starts attacking while she is standing still, she will not move while attacking, if she starts attacking while moving, she will move while attacking.
The stats out of the way, how to actually eliminate her. As Wolfgang, bring 3 dark swords, 3 helmets, pan-flute, and ~100 healing food, as any other character bring 5 dark swords, 3 helmets, pan flute, and ~100 healing food, also bring any movement speed increasing items you have, it will make kiting her easier. First, lure the dragonfly around the wall to the middle by the magma pool on the safe side, then begin attacking using the kiting pattern, 6 hits, run a small amount, wait for the attack to wind up, run, if you have a 1.4x or faster speed boost, you can do 7 hits, and only run once she starts winding up.
If playing as Wolfgang, you can also tank her at first to stun her and get free scales. Once you've done enough damage sit parallel to the magma pool, but far enough away to not overheat. When the Dragonfly comes back in to attack you, you have two options. Use the pan flute to dodge the attack, or tank the attack. Then resume attacking and kiting. She becomes enraged when all Lavae die, when she becomes enraged, run away and wait until she catches up to you, her first attack is always a fire stomp, which is slow and easy to dodge. Use this time to pan flute her to revert her to her normal form, then go back to attacking. Then repeat. If you are Wolfgang and don't encounter any phase bugs, you won't have to use the pan flute unless you mess up, and other characters will have to use it 1-2 times.
If you want to eliminate her with multiple people, split the gear among yourselves, and don't kite her, she's very easy with multiple people, especially more than two, due to the stunning mechanic, make sure to do as much damage as possible to get the maximum stuns.
Congratulations, you now know how to eliminate the Dragonfly, the scales and recipe can be used to make the scaled furnace, which is an infinite fireplace, which is especially useful for winter.
