Links & chapter below! HROT is a Quake style retro FPS absolutely brimming with oppressive atmosphere, and Episode 2: Degustation (not Disgustation!) was released this summer. Set in 1980's Czechoslovakia under Soviet rule, the chunky graphics, fuzzy jagged rendering and brutalist architecture help draw you into an Eastern Bloc nightmare. Levels are inspired by real places and parts of Czech history are peppered throughout to lend a realistic tinge to the often bizarre events unfolding around you. The dark ambient soundtrack reminiscent of Trent Reznor's work on Quake 1 complete the package. Combat moves quickly and can have you dead in an instant, but it has that Quake feel and fun. It's almost hard to believe this was all made by one person!
