Basically you parry and then Ex Lariat or Hammer Frenzy then do the dash jump splash set up. That's it. That's the tech lol

Also everybody is "difficult" for Hugo... except for Sean. Poor Sean.

The reason why this match up is so tough is because Urien has so many tools to keep Hugo away while he builds meter for Aegis Unblockables. Gigas Breaker, at a low to mid level, is pretty effective against unblockables because of it's speed, invincibility, range and command grab property. However, an experienced Urien player knows this and will tailor the unblockable sets up to be airborne and avoid it all together. Which means Hugo has to be extremely clutch with Gigas Breaker and the match is already hard enough to navigate. Aegis is just a reality that Hugo and pretty much all characters have to deal with. Because Hammer Frenzy offers more punishes, has two meters (which allows more use of EX Lariat while maintaining a super) and allows for an extremely powerful set up, I think it is the correct choice in this match up. With careful parries in neutral, you can prevent him from getting started in the first place!

What also makes this match up tough is because Hugo is so tall that Urien can vary the timing of his jumping attacks, specifically jump HK. This makes it difficult to consistently anti air with back breaker since he can just hit Hugo out of it during its start up. If you do parry an early jumping roundhouse, you can punish him with Ex-Lariat before he lands! Hugo's crouching HP is also a reasonable anti-air but it comes with extremely high risk if they parry it while they are airborne (they can get a full crouching HP punish when they land and you will probably be in an unblockable set up).

One thing to consider about Urien is that where to anticipate parries in neutral. Pretty much everything Hugo parries in neutral can be converted into an Ex-Lariat or Hammer Frenzy. So if you stand outside of the range of Urien's crouching MK, you then you have an array of normals that you can forward parry. There's also crouching HK which can reach at this range and is much slower compared to everything else, but still fast enough that it is extremely difficult (if not impossible) to react to (the first active frame is on frame 13). Keep in mind that none of these are technically reactable so it really helps to understand the habits of your opponent. If you think in terms of risk and reward, the reward for Hugo getting a parry in neutral into EX-Lariat or Hammer Frenzy is much much higher than if Urien makes contact or hits with them.

The key is that crouching Urien still gets hit by Ex-Lariat!
