Hunt: Showdown | Showcase
Today we have a showcase of Hunt Showdown. This game was created by the developers of Crysis, one of my favorite games of all time. The premise itself intrigued me as well, but unfortunately I felt that the whole product was held back by a single factor.
The game revolves around hunters that try to find clues in order to take down a boss in a giant level. Across the map are various traps, enemy mobs and animals that can alert nearby dangers. It is very cool to explore the map and fight these various creatures while trying to hunt down your main target.
But what makes this whole game not that fun for me is the PVP aspect, which is unfortunate, because that is part of the core that this game is. The idea is that while you are on the hunt you will come across various other players and will have these epic fights across the bayou. But what happens in reality, just as many other PVP games for that matter, is that other players will simply camp an area or hide and wait until a different player finds the main target and then go in and take them out. It makes an otherwise very enjoyable game on paper not that fun to play. During my playtesting the developers had actually introduced a new tutorial that was a bit more story based with some scripted events. I would highly recommend the developers to consider putting in a PVE mode in the future. With games like Bigfoot, Eresys and The Outlast Trials showcasing that PVE games are making a comeback, I think Hunt The Showdown will benefit from a mode where I can sit down with my friends and simply hunt the various bosses and fight the regular enemies without having to worry about getting killed in a cheap way. If they ever do add this mode I will definitely make another video where I cover this.
