Magna Carta 2 | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary
You might not think of JRPG's when talking about the Xbox, but the Xbox 360 was a golden age of RPGs created by Asian developers. The reason for this was that Microsoft launched a campaign to win over the Asian market by having various exclusive titles. Among those are Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia (which nowadays is no longer exclusive) and also Magna Carta 2.
Magna Carta 2 always intrigued me due to the esthetic, but I heard that it wasn't that good, so I never picked it up back in the day. But I found an actual new copy recently and got to experience this massive RPG for the very first time. And though there is a lot to like, it does indeed come with some flaws.
I think that the battle system which is in real time is very cool and the various characters play differently enough to warrant a switch in playstyle. And though the game begins very cool with an epic battle and nice buildup, it doesn't take long before you realize that the developers did not have a huge budget at their disposal. Most of the cutscenes and dialogues are done by static images and portraits of the characters talking to each other. This is just not very engaging and throughout the story many areas and even bosses get reused multiple times. There is something here to like and I love the art style and characters, but it comes with some issues. Nevertheless I am glad that I got to experience this RPG and can add it to the archives so that it will not be forgotten to time.
