Single-spool jet turbines produce 110 pounds of thrust, allowing the drone to lift up to 881 pounds. The British military recently revealed that drones can fire Brimstone missiles from the sky to the ground. The British Army has made it clear that the Hydra 400 will be able to fit in the trunk of a Land Rover while still providing capabilities comparable to the AH-64 Apache helicopter. The time required to get the drone ready for takeoff is only six minutes. The Hydra 400 can destroy enemy tanks up to twenty miles away with its arsenal of three Brimstone missiles. The Hydra 400 is still in the prototype stage of development. The UAV will be put through its paces in live military drills by the UK's Armed Forces by year's end. The drone may not be officially adopted into service for another five years due to bureaucratic complexities.
