Hymble Ventures: Can Exploring Neurodivergent Traits in Games Be a Bad Thing? #indiegame
6Hey everyone! Just a short video this week. Today I wanted to show you Hymble Ventures, another SteamNextFest game. I almost didn't post this one, not because I think Hymble Ventures is a bad game, I definitely don't. It reminds me of the PS2 platforming days and that's always a good thing!
What has conflicted me so much about Hymble Ventures is the theme being explored here - Neurodiversity. Now, of course, I think diversity in games can only be a good thing but I also worry that this borders on the realm of being *too* stereotypical.
I'm a neurospicy bean myself, and I want to see different things being portrayed in media, I just don't know if it should always be portrayed in this way. We aren't a monolith. But I also don't think the devs are meaning anything at all harmful either, I think this all comes from a good place. I just feel so conflicted. I talk more about my reason for this in the video but I'd love to know what you think?
