This playthrough is a bit personal for me. Why? Because this is to send Nintendo of America a message. They left money on the floor making the decision to deny a Western release for this game. Not just this game but a few others. All because they violated their “content guidelines”. Pure BS. Regardless, I have a job to do you know. Welcome to Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1.
Do you remember when I did a first hour video of Neptunia ReVerse? Well, that game is a definitive remake of this one to celebrate the franchise's 10th anniversary. In addition, this game will also be getting a PS4 version entitled Neptunia Re;Birth1+. But anyway, this game is actually a remake of the original Hyperdimension Neptunia that was released on the PlayStation 3. To think that I would do something like this you know. It doesn't matter. I want to show my love for this series and to send Nintendo's American branch a message.
This game was released for the PSVita in 2013 for Japan and 2014 for the rest of the world. It would end up getting ported to Steam & GOG in 2015, PS4 (in Japan) in 2018 and Nintendo Switch (in Japan) in 2024. But you may notice that this game is in English. Well, shoutouts to EastAsiaSoft for publishing the game in the Asian-English market. Not only that but Re;Birth1+ and the sequels will finally come overseas this year for the PS4. Look forward to them as I'll be doing first-hour videos of these.
In terms of the story, it follows Neptune. She is one of the four CPU goddesses that protect a world known as Gamindustri. During the events of the Console War, Neptune was defeated in battle by the other three goddesses. As a result she was exiled from Celestia and would end up in the lower realm. Not only that but she lost her memories. To get her memory back, she teams up with others who would become dear friends and travel to the four lands of Gamindustri.
Neptunia Re;Birth1 is a turn-based RPG in every sense of the world. It's battle system is interesting, and you can customize how your moves are to your advantage. You have three kinds of attacks: Rush, Power and Break. Mixing things up along with special finishing attacks can help you survive. Not only that but this game implements the Remake System. This allows you to edit the game world to your liking. Some examples include jump height, enemy difficulty, game functions and even change items and dungeons. You need to obtain plans and to unlock them, you need to get materials, and they can depend. Once the conditions are met, you can enable the plan in exchange for Memory (MB). Just bear in mind that any MB used to set it will not be refunded especially when it comes to game mechanics. As for new items and dungeons, you can find them in the shop or world map.
There's a lot to do and I promise you it will not be a pretty thing. We cover the first portion of the game that serves as a tutorial. And plus it will be a challenge to say the least. Believe me.
