Hyperdimension Neptunia
This is the first Neptunia game and from what I understand, it was an experiment and an asset dump. All dungeons are designed as labyrinths and enemy encounters are triggered by a set amount of footsteps within a dungeon. The snow covered forest labyrinths and white crystal caves really give that fantasy game feeling and are my favorite dungeons of this game. The three CPUs shown here are not made available through story progression. Rather, they are optional content to be unlocked at the end game. They are not important characters to this story until you aim for the game's True Ending. The CPU candidates did not exist in this game and were not even a concept. CPU blogs were voiced and showed animated character portraits. Something that isn't seen in Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;birth1, although it does have CPU blogs but they are just a wall of text. There is also Hi-Five Radio hosted by 5pb which is not featured at all in HDN Re;birth1. World maps are 3D which I personally prefer that to just the artwork used for most of the games in the series. The story consisted of plenty of subplots which made NPC characters very fleshed out despite not having their own character portraits. Monsters were creepy and looked threatening. Megadimension Neptunia VII brought creepy/threatening-looking monsters back but with original designs instead of reused assets from other games. MDN VII also brought back labyrinth-like dungeons, which makes players invest more time in exploration. Healing is not within the player's control but based on rng. The more item points invested into using one item, the higher the chance that the character will use that item when the situation calls for it. This game did not set out to start an entire series of games. As shown by the True Ending, it was meant to be one game. Hyperdimension Neptunia MK2 signals the start of the mainline series and establishes the characters and lore in Hyper Dimension which is separate from the Super Dimension, which this game takes place in despite the title of this game. HDN MK2 uses newer/original assets that aesthetically fits the theme and the tone of the series, leaning more towards gaming industry as a theme and not leaning as much on generic fantasy. This is not a Nep game for casuals to get into as it is very slow and can get dull. This is mostly something for fans that want to really experience the roots of Neptunia and take in more Nep lore.
