There's just never enough speed. I found a way to get past that previous speed limit so all I need to do is keep adding sails. Obviously that has a few challenges to it, like running into islands constantly and even getting stuck in one or two somehow. After working out the many kinks I finally have a raft of adequate speed, it moves so fast that things dropped off instantly disappear. If only there was a mod for more speed.
