This horror gameplay is from the game Dark Souls (Remastered). In Dark Souls, a primordial fire known as the First Flame disrupted the world by bringing change and disparity, including a distinction between life and death. The four powerful "Lord Souls" were found within the First Flame and were used by three beings to lead a war against the Everlasting Dragons that ruled supreme over the land. The fall of the dragons marked a beginning of a new and thriving era; the Age of Fire. However, in Dark Souls, the First Flame began to fade, threatening to put an end to the Age of Fire and cause the calamitous Age of Dark; a symptom of the Flame's withering, causing a curse of undeath to spread amongst the humans. Thus causing the afflicted to return to life every time they die until they eventually become a mindless husk, or "hollow". In Dark Souls gameplay, the player ("Chosen Undead") is a cursed undead human who escapes from the Northern Undead Asylum to the fallen kingdom of Lordran, once home to many humans and gods but now abandoned and populated by few but hollows and monsters. There, they follow the steps of a prophecy stating that an undead would one day arrive from the asylum and ring two "Bells of Awakening" across the land. In doing so, they would gain access to Anor Londo, the former home of the gods, to retrieve an artifact known as the Lordvessel from Gwyn's daughter Gwynevere. The player must travel across Lordran and slay mighty beings to recover their powerful souls: Nito, Seath, the Bed of Chaos, and the Four Kings, humans who were corrupted by an all-consuming force called Abyss. Depending on their actions and choices, the player can proceed on their own or under the guidance of primordial serpents: Kingseeker Frampt (good ending) or Darkstalker Kaathe (bad ending).
