The easiest way to send someone to heaven with zero risk is hacking a toilet. Flushing it remotely in a suspicious manner, and then detonating for a free kill. Now that's what i call splashback!

If you've ever wanted to feel like a hacker while balancing the need to not get shot in the face then Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum is a title you'll need to hear several times before being able to google to play, and even then probably still with typos.

As the title says, i got stuck for a couple evenings on the second campaign mission. Their idea of easing you in is a trial by fire where you're garnished with gasoline.

During this time i came to appreciate how alt+F4able this game is as well as the spirit of human perseverance in not wanting to look like an IGN reviewer on YouTube. i was surprised that i quickly came to love this game, and not just in a stockholm sort of way. The bonus is that once you do finish the level you are a certified beast, able to outsmart blimps with bullet reflective beams, turrets, camera security systems, and psychos that can kill you in one shot. Unfortunately this doesn't even begin to prepare you for literally everything else.

Here's the basic loop:

Each day pick either a side mission or a mainline story mission. Gear up with different weapons and skeletons and Swap out from your pile of skills you slowly unlock packs of. then Get dropped into a level to do some form of espionage or assassination. This cycle is spiced up by random characters and emails encroaching on your life and unfolding the story. Like this shower demon. You know, I'm somewhat of a shower demon myself

If all these numbers down the side spook you don't worry just keep an eye on the ammo count for now and the rest will make sense later.

For a game that looks like, well, this, it sure does know how to fill me with feelings. And here i thought that a carefully planned adrenaline filled insertion was only something i could achieve in a public park.

The game itself feels like a freeform puzzle, with each stage being a sandbox of interlocking defenses waiting to get cracked opened and abused.

you can hack anything you have line of sight of or a direct connection to, so hacking a turret will let you do a hop to the main controller hub and then turn them all into friendlies. controlling the various mechanisms costs data. Data is a limited resource you get points of every time you see a new computer. Too much hacking raises the security level of the network and raises the chances of getting debuffs applied. I recommend keeping your hands clean as much as possible by hacking into an enemy and remote controlling them, but make sure your own body is tucked away safe or some mook will get an easy free kill.

Each skeleton has a certain amount of points to spend on abilities, bullet sponginess, and time slowing ability. This gives you time, if you're good typing under pressure, to hack guys and bullets right in front of you. Writing commands is eleviated by being able to write the first few letters and then hitting tab to autofill or cycle options.

The movement is Let's just say: one man's ponderous is another man's thoughtful. The weapons are randomized but you can lock and upgrade any you jive with.

Your a dude has been forced into working for corpos who charge you a million dollars every time you die to retrieve your body. Successfully completing a mission gets you enough money to maybe cover some of the 1% interest or buy fun stuff instead. As economists around the world have shown us, sometimes a number gets so big it ceases being a problem you expect to do anything about until the revolution comes.

The game is gearing up for a 1.0 release later this month and in the pipes is a new game+ and roguelike mode. Honestly the pricepoint is a steal. This one's a big recommend from the rathole. Thanks for watching.
