I Only Play Games That Are Popular - Episode 01: Much Ado About Something
2 down, 2 to go. Now I'm moving onto the game I've been dreading the most of the RPGaunlet: Final Fantasy IX. Truth be told, my early take on the game is far kinder than FF7. Perhaps I'm being kinder because this will be the final ...Final Fantasy I've agreed to stream and as such, I'm being kinder to it. That or I'm just happy to see a game with four party members, which makes combat balancing a lot better in general.
The updates to the graphics are a mixed bag. Character models look good, but the pre-rendered backgrounds definitely show their age. The weird part would have to be the cutscenes: some of them actually look really good, but others are incredibly grainy for some reason. There are also a few weird bugs that I've had to contend with. At one point, during the first dungeon, the game froze. I'm legitimately thankful that Square Enix added autosaving. Also, for some reason, the controls will randomly force the character to go left while using a controller, but this is easy enough to rectify: disconnect the controller, focus on a different window and reconnect the controller. That fixes it, but it seems to crop up at really weird times. Wish I'd realized the solution to that problem first.
Focused really heavily on Southern and Brooklyn accents in this game for some reason. Do not know why. I think I started shifting voices around too. Happy with what I've got for my main party though, so that'll probably stay consistent.
