I Only Play Games That Are Popular - Episode 07: The Restart of the Cards

This was one of those streams I always hate doing, when it comes to JRPGs. You know, the ones where you end up doing a lot, but it's mostly just storyline stuff or mandatory sidequests, so while you are, in fact, making necessary progress in the game, it just feels like you're running around in circles, not really accomplishing anything? Streams like that always feel like a waste of time, especially if they're not offset with something that feels like tangible progress.
The worst part about this was the mandatory card game section. The rules are barely coherent, to the extent where even KI himself told me that he didn't entirely understand how to play the game and outright suggested I save scum and brute force my way through it. I think the ironic thing was that I managed to beat the last match -- the one where you "only get one shot" -- on my first try. I had way more trouble with the other two matches.
Oddly enough, I managed to encounter two glitches that had plagued me early in the game -- and ones that I thought I'd worked past. First, the controller holding hard-left reappeared, but as usual, that was easy enough to rectify. Then, right before I decided to call it a night, the game locked up as I was forced into a random battle. Thank God for autosaves, otherwise I'd have lost an entire hour of progress. I wonder why Square Enix never fixed either of those bugs in a patch. Oh well.
Ironically, I finally managed to differentiate Cid's Oglop voice from Vivi's in this session... just in time for him to get turned into a frog. At least I managed to bounce back quickly and come up with a new voice.
