In this video, I try to fix your number one concern when the NES triangle wave loses its stairsteps. Making the waveform smooth results in it losing the high frequency buzzing sound which makes it harder to hear when playing low frequency notes.

The source code to the modified NSF player is available at my GitHub repository https://github.com/kylxbn/nsfplay but since I am dumb and don't know how to create binaries for Windows, this is source only for now. (I mean, I use Linux but I can't write makefiles if my life depended on it, so I guess it's fair that I don't know how to build Windows binaries)

Background music:
Jogeir Liljedahl - "Nearly There"
Jester - "Stardust Memories"
Captain - "Space Debris"
