I went back and finally defeated Cleric Beast thanks to Elden Ring
If you're one of the thousand-odd people subscribed to my channel (whoa, watch out, Mr. Beast) this vid might seem like a reupload but it isn't.
For a long time I tried real hard to get into Souls games, expecially Bloodborne coz of all the love it regularly receives even today from gamers, but just could'nt get past the Yarnham bonfire, let alone first boss. With Elden Ring approaching, I finally decided to give it one honest go before I uninstalled it or something.
And I did get past the Cleric Beast, which I later learnt was totally optional. But the victory felt hollow, like I had both overleveled and cheesed him.
And so, after completing Elden Ring in a leisurely 186 hours, and finding none of the bosses significantly difficult, I went back to Bloodborne with renewed enthusiasm. But I had forgotten much of the mechanics and so decided to start from scratch.
This is where I understood the saying that your first Souls game is always the hardest. This time round, thanks to Elden Ring, I had no problem trouncing the Cleric Beast on my second try. Even if the mechanics are different, it doesn't matter coz winning a Souls boss duel isn't about them, it is about the git gud mentality it imbues in you: patience, deliberate moves, observation, perseverance.
There are still a few bumps on the road--I am currently stuck on Rom the Vacuous Spider and Amygdala at two ends, and they both look nigh insurmountable right now. But that's the beauty of these games. Almost every new boss feels just like that at first encounter, but then something clicks, you enter that fabled flow state, and soon you're scything across beasts and gods alike.
