In Icarus you can save the game by simply quitting out to the main menu - your character will stay on the server, but invisible, like with DayZ, so you can carry on with your real-life tasks and responsibilities.
HOWEVER you must not leave your player on that "prospect" or "instance" longer than the mission timer countdown, otherwise you will lose them, and all off their tech tree and skills progression for good and you'll have to start afresh.
