id Software selling DOOM Switch: Not "watering anything down"
More info on this stripped down port: No SnapMap http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-09-15-doom-on-switch-wont-have-snapmap-level-editor
The massive compression employed to get this to fit on average Switch storage: http://www.shacknews.com/article/101967/doom-on-switch-is-30-the-file-size-of-the-pc-version
...which means hypercompressed audio and assets (even further reducing the quality of this game despite the already explained nosedive to 720@30fps from PS4s 1080p@mostly locked 60fps, XB1s dynamic 1080p@variable 60fps, and PC obviously being able to push beyond that in res/fps/settings)
YouTube compression makes the performance difference even less noticeable than it otherwise would be.
id selling this for full AAA price at launch as a title that supposedly isn't watered down is hysterical. They should've gone the Doom 64 route - make a standalone Doom title for the Switch. Instead it's going to be the worst version of DOOM 2016 on the market.
For comparisons sake, the other regular versions of DOOM 2016 are already routinely going on sale for $20CDN. This extremely stripped down Switch version will be $80CDN at launch.
