Update: Version 2.0 onwards has Continue feature and multiple difficulties for Arcade Mode. Also, the Arcade Mode path has been changed to feature branches, different opponents and the final boss, making the game more difficult than before.

Some important note to know before playing Idol Showdown, the fanmade/derivative game made by Besto Game Team, there are no continues in Arcade Mode and you have to start over if you're defeated. This is more like Score Attack version of the Arcade Mode in my opinion and it should be simple for them to implement the Continue feature. The same goes for Virtual Frontier Mode, which has to be done in one run from start to end without getting knocked out. If there's going to be a checkpoint/progress save feature for Virtual Frontier Mode, how will that work? Or maybe the Virtual Frontier Mode is comparable to some mode from certain fighting game but my argument is that, the Virtual Frontier Mode is a little bit story-driven that there should be something implemented in it. There is a revival item in this mode but it restores half the full health during the round.
The round start/end text couldn't be any more strange after seeing the ones from Million Arthur Arcana Blood or Daemon Bride. However, the round start/end quotes mentioned by the announcer make proper sense. Speaking of the announcer, the female one leaves to be desired that I switched to the male one who sounds like the announcer from Skullgirls.

Flaws aside, there are positives. From the character selection screen, there's a difficulty rating for each character, letting you know which one is easily manageable. The assist character mechanic during gameplay reminds you of the one from Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax Ignition. There are other gameplay mechanics like Instant Block, Air Tech, Quick Raise, etc. They may seem like the references to other fighting games. The Online mode is a good opportunity for players to try out thanks to the usage of GGPO Netcode. One cool initiative the game has is automatically turning on Streamer Mode upon detecting that the video capture software is open. It's to ensure that the livestream of this game can be monetized without copyright issues.

Lastly, you should be warned that some of the references in the game can go against your principles such as the question in Virtual Frontier Mode where you can't refuse Nene's marriage for instance. Even Oga and Korone encountered that question in their stream and they couldn't refuse Nene's questionable plan. For that reference, her actions were too questionable that she was interrogated by Subaru in the Oozora Police stream. Man, that series of streams from Oozora Subaru is highly interesting that you should watch it.

One more thing, I'm no goodie at fighting games in general and this video looks like one of my first gameplay videos of fighting games on my channel.
