Ikari III: The Rescue (NES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A playthrough of SNK's 1991 NES game, Ikari III: The Rescue.
It's odd, that for this being EASILY the best looking, sounding, and playing game of the Ikari Warriors trilogy on the NES, it's by far the most overlooked and ignored of the series. Maybe people just gave up after the first two (*glares* at Micronics), but this one, developed internally by SNK, is an absolute success. The graphics are top notch, with animated cutscenes, lots of sprites on-screen without too much slowdown or flicker for the most part, and a solid set of controls make this a complete 180 degree turnaround from the first two games. It's also far more forgiving, with a life bar and lots of 1ups. It's not easy by any means, but this one feels far more fair and skill-based than the others.
Oh, and being SNK developed, that digital drum sample sounds suspiciously like the one used in the phenomenal soundtrack for Crystalis, doesn't it? Coincidence? I doubt it.
