The Great Gatsby (PC) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A playthrough of the 2011 "prototype NES game found at a garage sale" Flash-based PC game, The Great Gatsby.
It has quite a fun story behind the elaborate hoax here. But, it's impressive how close it gets to an old NES style game, albeit far easier and shorter than most real games, in it's style and presentation. Visit http://greatgatsbygame.com to play it for yourself. It's far higher quality than you'd ever expect from a fan-made browser game.
And I'm probably a bit biased here. I'm a high school English teacher and I teach this book. I think I'll make this game a homework assignment next time I teach it... they'll never forget that they were assigned to play a video game and then write a reflection piece on how media produces, interprets, and reinterprets itself in a cycle, using this Gatsby "NES" game as a lens for the analysis. Hahahaha, if I were 16, I'd love to write that paper! Hell, I still would love to write that paper.
Sorry, a bit of a geek out. Anyways, it's great. Try it.
And if you really want to get serious, download JoyToKey and map the games keyboard strokes to your gamepad. It's a pretty convincing mimic of an NES game.
And my favorite moment - the cutscene that depicts a hysterical Daisy, overwhelmed having "never seen such beautiful shirts before!" To be a beautiful fool, indeed. Conniving witch.
