8Ikki is translated as "riot", "revolt" or "insurrection".
The game is known outside Japan as Boomerang and Farmers Rebellion. Its main character, Gonbe, makes a cameo appearance in Atlantis no Nazo, another Sunsoft game.
In 1986, Ikki was adapted as a manga by Sawada Yukio and published by Wan Pakku Comics, released as a story in the anthology series Hisshō Tekunikku Kan Peki-ban
