I'm Not A Very Good Viking | Sons of Valhalla (2D Pixel-Art Viking Base Builder - Demo)
179Sons of Valhalla is a Viking base builder game with some absolutely gorgeous pixel-art graphics. We play as Thorald Olavson, a Viking who is seeking vengeance on the man who burned his village to the ground and took his Wife as a slave!
We settle on the shores of England in pursuit of our prey but we have very little in terms of fighting force or resources. Fortunately our Viking friends pop by every so often to give us a few things, like wood and food, and we're able to build a little settlement.
We get a barracks in place to train soldiers, a fishery to provide food, things like that, and soon enough we're upgrading our buildings to make them more efficient. With some fighters assembled we make our way to the right (because it's a 2D game and that's where the baddies are!) and engage in battle!
With a quest as noble as ours it seems we've been blessed by the Gods, indeed by Odin himself, who speaks to us directly and assures us of immortality as long as we sacrifice a magical rune each time we find ourselves a bit dead. So that's quite handy!

Sons of Valhalla combines side-scrolling combat with base-building strategy in a beautiful pixel-art Viking Age world. You play as Thorald Olavson, a warrior hell-bent on tracking down the Jarl who burned down his home, stole his beloved, and fled to distant England.
Strategic Base Building
Base-building is key to your quest. Develop your towns and actively manage your economy or raid neighboring villages to take what you need. Steadily accumulate power to challenge the military might of your enemy, and go out into the countryside to conquer villages, gather resources, and draw warriors to your cause.
Create and upgrade a variety of buildings to generate resources, provide storage, or offer enhanced training or capabilities for your warriors. Elevate your burgeoning villages into powerful strongholds that provide well-armed troops and mighty siege engines.
Fortify your villages against attack, as the enemy will not sit idly by in the face of your encroachment. Expect conquered border towns to turn into contested battlegrounds as undefended conquests may easily be recaptured.
Raid nearby settlements you aren’t ready to conquer and hold. Take whatever goods you can carry off and cull the enemy force. Then bide your time to return stronger to finish your annexation of a weakened enemy.
Tactical Combat
Once your stronghold is operational and your warriors are ready for battle, it’s time for conquest. Lead your men in tactical combat by issuing orders and utilizing special abilities and formations. But remember: a true warrior leads from the front, so be prepared to take up your sword to fight alongside your men.
Recruit a wide array of troops to fight by your side – from basic swordsmen and archers to better armed and armored warriors. Success in battle comes from using the right troops for the right situation.
Issue orders to confront and adapt to any situation. Order your men to follow you or assault the enemy, declare a fighting retreat when the tide of battle turns against you, or form a shield wall and take on your foe in true Viking fashion.
Break through the enemy shield wall and cut them down with your own blade or become a master of the bow and spear as you destroy your enemy from a distance. Stand with your men, protect their retreats, and lead their assaults. After a hard battle, while your warriors recover their strength, you can choose to venture alone into the wilderness to find treasure and harry the enemy.

Sons of Valhalla is the creation of two brothers with a passion for pixel art and the Viking Age. In-between the conquest and swordplay, we hope you will enjoy the little touches – the look of the buildings, the ducks swimming on water, and the general atmosphere as days turn to nights, sunshine to storms.
