Immortals Fenyx Rising was a thoroughly enjoyable game, the only complaints I have for it come down to nitpicking. And, well, it's basically an open world 'character action/spectacle fighter' game, to a small degree.

It doesn't get too fancy, but there are tricks to learn, such as glides canceling almost any aerial attack (and even allows for somewhat Bayonetta-style offsetting), and bow-aiming drops you to fall faster than enemies, and various little tricks that help the combo game such as the bow with the knockback perk. The game movement is really snappy and fun, and gliding as movement feels nice.

It can probably get a little fancier than I show, but I get really carried away just comboing stuff as high as I can. There's just something special about comboing enemies to the sky, and seeing a whole open-world down all around you. And enemies take huge damage the higher they fall, so it's always fun to end crashing down.

Interestingly, it only seems to count the peak where an enemy was at. Even if you constantly break their fall with attacks, when they tap the ground they'll take damage like they plummeted from that peak.

And there's that fun glitch I came across, where if you glide-cancel and aim immediately as the aerial charged axe hits, the enemy will get stuck to your aim like an arrow...


Anyway, to not keep going on about combat mechanics, it really was a great game, in many ways more than just the combat, and it's an experience I highly recommend, it's got something for everyone. Beautiful visuals, good puzzles, surprisingly decent story, very nice music...


I did have fun giving this video a Kid Icarus Uprising theme, which is one of my all time favorites, and besides the whole Greek thing I think they have similarities in style and tone...
