Dragon Quest Heroes II (Combo Video)
A combo video for Dragon Quest Heroes II. A bit of a silly prospect, but I loved the game, and had a lot of fun making this. The combo mechanics are about standard for a Warriors game, but it has some unique things to it. Considering this game has no 'officers' to juggle, it's a bit odd these mechanics are there. It's actually a bit of a chore to set up scenarios where you can combo things that won't die immediately. Only two enemies in the game can really take it even with the starter weapons, and they're always in swarms, often with vicious or non-flinching enemies. There's also no lock-on for small fry... But if there are combos, I gotta combo.
Most characters can generally cancel animations with skills, and skills into skills. Some can be jump-canceled or land-canceled, and all that jazz. Interestingly, different enemies have different weights or falling animations, which affect juggle combos. Characters can tag-team in at any point of any animation, so that's fun, though I was focused on stringing solo combos mostly.
Anyway, it's cool trying to come up with the ideas for combos with the synergy of movesets and skills, and even some magic can do neat stuff, though many characters are limited or very basic.
The odd one out is Maya... who seems designed for a different game. With the near indefinite flight, no limit on air attacks, air dashes, and a fairly big movelist with nearly every skill based on air combos... Even casting ground magic from the air to pop enemies upwards, and she can seamlessly transition to ground combos and back. She has a conditional passive buff that lets her fall/glide very slowly, but not only that, it makes enemies she hits fall with the same gravity. Really, she's a full blown spectacle fighter on her own, on a small scale.
But I love all these characters, they all generally have their fun combo gimmicks, and I'll miss seeing more of the Heroes II originals. It was a very nice game.
