The Blue Jays go to the Midwest in Detroit, MI, as they face the Tigers.

As the 1980s progressed with both teams getting better in the American League East, another chapter in the rivalry of two cities just 233 miles (or 375 kilometers) apart brewed.

In the mid-80s, the Tigers and Blue Jays were two of the best teams in baseball. Detroit was rounding into World Series form and Toronto looked to change its reputation from scrappy expansion team to a title contender. 

Detroit jumped out to a 35-5 start in 1984, but the Blue Jays were never too far behind in the AL East standings. The Tigers weren't to be denied that year, winning the World Series. Toronto won the division in 1985, but fell to the Royal in the ALCS. When the Tigers were struggling in the early 1990s, the door swung open for the Blue Jays to best the Tigers, en route to winning their back-to-back World Series. The rivalry was finally put to rest when Detroit was shifted to the AL Central in 1998.
