🇮🇳Indian Food🇮🇳 Expectations vs Reality #indianfood #shortsindia #travel
New Bengaluru YouTube vlog with this MASSIVE Ganesh Chaturthi oota (banana leaf buffet?) will be up tonight at 8PM IST / 16:30 Dutch time. But here's why this meal surprised me so much...
When you see Indian restaurants abroad it's actually mostly North Indian food: naan, palak paneer, butter chicken etc. Also in North India thali's are mostly served on a steel plate with many katoris (small bowls) filled with yummy food like yellow dal, aloo ghobi (potato cauliflower curry) and some kind of paneer in gravy.
However in South India (Indian states like Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andra Pradesh) the 'thali' (food buffet) is mostly served on a banana leaf. Dishes like rasam, sambhar are mostly staples and the dal will taste differently. Paneer is not served in a Karnataka oota like I got served here.

The menu said Ganesh Chaturthi thali so I actually expected to get the big steel plate with some heavier gravies, but woah this banana leaf oota (as the meal is called in Karnataka) was WAY more than I expected haha! You think you know Indian food, but then there's always some new delightful surprises like this.
Check the full vlog tonight as I went to one of Bengaluru's oldest neighbourhoods with my fave @chillystudio Lots of fun and good food was had!
