India’s 1st Valorant Virtual Training Academy | NCoE for AVGC-XR | Gaming and Esports Headlines
Welcome to our latest update on breaking gaming headlines-
1) Riot Games has teamed up with KGeN to launch LIFT//OFF, India’s first-ever VALORANT virtual training academy. This initiative is designed to nurture the next generation of professional VALORANT athletes and provide them with a platform to showcase their talent on a global scale. KGeN will be selecting 20 gaming content creators, who will act as “creators,” and pair them with 20 experienced competitive players, known as “trainers.” These trainers will guide their teams, which the creators will form from their own communities—either by selecting five players or joining in themselves. Critical player stats, such as hours played, win rates, successful kills, headshot percentage, and KDR, will be key factors in determining the first batch of creators, trainers, and recruits. In addition, a strong social standing in the community—through tournament wins, content creation, and positive player feedback—will be just as important.
The academy is set to launch on September 18, with applications for Creators, Trainers, and Recruits already open. The deadline to apply is October 10. Once enrolled, a KGeN representative will guide you through the next steps. From November 4 to 26, recruits will participate in in-game challenges to test their skills and climb the Weekly & Daily Challenges Leaderboard. The grand finale will take place from November 30 to December 3, where both recruits and trainers will be tested on their learning and teaching effectiveness.
2) The E-Gaming Federation (EGF) has introduced a dynamic new platform called Manthan. Designed to bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators, Manthan is set to spark crucial conversations at the intersection of technology and policy. The initiative focuses on how gaming can play a pivotal role in shaping India’s future and boosting its global standing. One of the key themes explored at the inaugural Manthan session, titled ‘Create in India: Games as a Source of India’s Soft Power’, was the potential of gaming as a powerful tool for India’s cultural influence worldwide. Industry experts discussed how gaming can be more than just entertainment—it can become a showcase of India’s creativity, heritage, and technological prowess. The EGF’s Manthan is all about driving forward-thinking conversations. By bringing diverse voices to the table, the platform seeks to create new opportunities and explore advancements in gaming technologies. It reflects a bold vision—one that positions India as not just a participant but a leader in the global gaming revolution. As discussions continue at Manthan, one thing is clear: gaming is no longer just fun and games. It’s a serious contender in India’s growth story, and Manthan is paving the way for India’s future in this fast-evolving industry.
3) The Union Cabinet has approved the establishment of a National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality, or AVGC-XR. This ultimate initiative, which will be based in Mumbai, Maharashtra is in line with the 2022-23 budget announcement by the Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs regarding the formation of an AVGC Task Force. It is aimed at positioning India as a global content hub and enhancing its soft power on the international stage.
Tentatively called the Indian Institute for Immersive Creators (IIIC), this center will function on the lines of prestigious institutions like the IITs and IIMs. The center is set to become the hub of India’s animation future, with additional regional centers serving as spokes. With the AVGC-XR sector poised to create 5lakh new jobs, the IIIC will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of India’s digital creative landscape.
Notably, industry bodies like the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will partner with the government to bring this vision to life. Together, they aim to develop world-class Indian intellectual property that taps into the nation's rich historical and cultural heritage, offering content for both domestic and global audiences. With this initiative, India is not just riding the wave of the digital creative revolution and taking a transformative leap but is also positioning itself as a leader in the gaming and esports industry.
