20 year old game developer Mike Maulbeck had an indie game he was working on, called Paranautical Activity, removed from Steam after threatening Valve’s Gabe Newell. After Paranuatical Activity was mistakenly captioned as being Early Access when it actually wasn’t, Maulbeck went on Twitter, -with some particularly eloquent tweets, I mean, the guy has a knack for words- saying:

“ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME STEAM?”

“First they force me to delay the game because I can't release on weekends, now this. Steam is the most incompetent piece of fucking shit.”

-And finally spoken like a true gentleman he said:-

“I am going to kill gabe newell. He is going to die.”

-All because of something that Newell probably had absolutely nothing to do with…- Newell is still alive, however, and the game has been removed from Steam, with a Valve Spokesperson telling Kotaku:

“We have removed the game’s sales page and ceased relations with the developer after he threatened to kill one of our employees.”

-Yup. What did the guy think would happen? –

Maulbeck has also resigned from position at Code Avarice, the team behind Paranautical Activity, selling his half of the company to another employee, as well as giving up all rights and ownership of any of the company’s IP’s.

Valve have actually cut all ties with Code Avarice anyway, which really sucks for those other employees. Maulbeck has since apologised in a statement on the Code Avarice website, saying:

“Yesterday, Paranautical Activity released out of steam Early Access, and following some confusion about the state of the game I became frustrated with Steam, and tweeted a series of angry tweets that ended in me sarcastically saying I was going to kill Gabe Newell. A statement I obviously didn’t mean but was regardless completely unacceptable.

As a result of my actions, Paranautical Activity, a game made by 4 or 5 people depending on who you count as team members, was removed from Steam. I feel is it my responsibility to step down from Code Avarice completely so that Steam has no reason to harbour any more ill-will towards the company, and maybe even if we can’t see Paranautical Activity restored, at least future Code Avarice games may be allowed onto the platform.”

I’m really, deeply sorry that my short sighted, hot-tempered actions resulted in not only my own dreams and aspirations being destroyed, but those of the entire team I worked with. I’m sorry that my statements made Valve and/or Gabe uncomfortable and upset (rightfully so).”

-You know what would’ve been better, Maulbeck? Using that temper of yours to get angry at Valve for the mistake, rather than threatening to kill Gable Newell. Good job, bro.-
