INEC To Deregister CSOs That Are Yet To Submit Election Reports.

The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mamood Yakubu has threatened to deregister Civil Society Organisations that are yet to submit reports from previous elections.

Prof Yakubu gave the indication at the second
quarterly consultative meeting with CSO's at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.

The INEC boss said affected organisations will not be accredited to participate in future elections.

Prof Yakubu further advised the CSO's to submit their applications for accreditation as election observers for the September 21 Edo state Governorship elections.

Responding on behalf of the CSO's, the Executive Director, International Institute of Leadership and Governance, Dr Paddy Njoku, commended INEC for carrying stakeholders along in the nation’s electoral process.

The need for CSOs to join the ongoing voter education for eligible citizens to participate in the forth coming 10 days Continuous Voter Registration in Edo and Ondo States was also emphasised at the meeting.
