It was a gathering of diplomats, politicians, captains of industry, and Creame Dela Creame of the society to commemorate 2024 European Union Day in Nigeria's capital city, Abuja.

Addressing the mammoth crowd, the EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Samuela Isopi said the day is set aside annually to celebrate peace, solidarity, diversity, and unity.

She said the day is also used to advocate for human rights and more representation of women in governance. 
      
The ambassador further highlighted key areas of collaboration with the Nigerian government. 

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Speaker of Nigeria's House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, said this year's Europe Day celebration holds at a time the bonds between Europe and Nigeria is strengthened, especially in the area of trade.

He said the EU is Nigeria's largest trading partner, with a trade volume surpassing 45 billion euros in 2023, accounting for 20.9% of its global trade.

The Deputy Speaker, however, called for a renewed commitment to deepening ties as well as exploring new opportunities for cooperation between Nigeria and the EU.
