Ahead of the Edo and Ondo state Governorship elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has indicated plans to commence the continuous voter registration exercise in the 2 states from Monday 27th May to Wednesday 5th June 2024.

INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu who disclosed this at the second regular quarterly consultative meeting with political parties at the Commission's headquarters in Abuja, said the exercise is only open to new registrants and those who seek to transfer their registration.

He added that due to time constraint, the exercise will not be conducted online but across the 397 wards and INEC State headquarters in both states.

The INEC Chairman while soliciting the support of the Parties leadership to make the CVR exercise a success, also informed them that the list of uncollected PVCs will be published in the commissions state offices and website.

Responding on behalf of the political parties, Chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council IPAC, Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle who made case for credible and transparent elections said the commitment to deepen democracy in Nigeria will yet again be tested in the Edo and Ondo gubernatorial elections.

The IPAC Chairman further called for a review of the Electoral act to enable political parties get funding from Inec for mobilisation of the electorates ahead the conduct of future elections.
