Inside the Serpent to Baldur’s Last Stand – “We Must Be Better”
0Inside the World Serpent’s stomach, Kratos and Atreus recover Mimir’s missing eye — but their victory is short-lived. The serpent is violently attacked from the outside, forcing it to escape.
Outside, they encounter Freya, drawn by the attack, and moments later Baldur arrives. What follows is a tense, heartbreaking reunion between mother and son, with Baldur showing nothing but cold hatred for Freya over the curse she placed on him a century ago.
When Baldur lashes out to kill his mother, Kratos steps in, igniting an epic final battle. Amid the chaos, Atreus’s mistletoe arrowhead pierces Baldur’s hand, breaking the spell and allowing him to feel pain — and rage — for the first time in a hundred years.
The fight ends with Kratos overpowering Baldur. But when Baldur again tries to kill Freya, Kratos makes his choice: end his life to save her. Breaking the cycle of sons killing parents, Kratos tells Atreus the words that define them:
“We must be better than this.”
