Inspector Waffles Full Playthrough - Cat and Dog Police Duo Solve Crimes in this Adventure Game!
36I received a key for the full release of Inspector Waffles and gave it a go. This is a second playthrough to find all the Woolball cards for the secret ending scene. There's a few goofs where I paid more attention to incomplete notes than what was being said (and overlooked a key for a minute).
You play as a cat detective with a snifferdog partner to solve a murder mystery in a city of cats and dogs that turns out to be something much bigger. It's a good bit more casual of an adventure game as there's no ways to lose and no consequences for picking the wrong clue or item (and if you don't have the right thing you can easily leave and explore more to find what you need). There's a good bit of goofy humor from Waffles casually ignoring police procedure, the interaction between cats and dogs, and the hint system of Waffles calling his mother for advice. The game also has a number of shoutouts to other released or upcoming animal-themed adventure games (Backbone, Brok the Investigator, Chicken Police, and Lord Winklebottom Investigates off the of my head) that are interesting to see. A playthrough will likely run 4-6 hours.
That said, as per usual for pixel art games some items can be difficult to notice (the coin in chapter 4, some of the keys, etc.) and there's no button to reveal all hotspots in an area. Waffles discards items he no longer needs but as some items are used to obtain the optional (and permanently missable) Woolball cards you may have some completely useless items being carried until the very end. The cat and dog related puns may elicit some groans, if that's not your cup of tea.
I found it fun given my interest in this genre. I'd overall recommend it if you're wanting an easier adventure game to get into the genre or you particularly like adventure games.
