Faculty and students in WPI's learning sciences research group are seeking nothing less than to transform how mathematics and science are taught to young people. They are developing intelligent tutoring systems that are remarkably effective at helping guide students past stumbling blocks, while fostering a strong grasp of fundamental concepts. At the same time, these systems assess what students are actually learning, and where they are struggling--feedback that helps teachers, parents, and schools do a better job of meeting the needs of students in real time.
