Rep. Doggett, who represents a portion of Central Texas, said the ongoing challenge to select a House speaker is unlike any other he has seen during his many years serving.

On Wednesday, Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy again failed to secure the number of votes needed to secure his claim to the speaker's gavel as 20 conservative holdouts still refuse to support him.

The House adjured Wednesday night following an additional three votes where McCarthy failed to gain the majority.
