Building off of a previous theory of mine, that Sony and Marvel may use the planned multiverse as a way to both satisfy their Spidey needs.
UPDATE: Give more recent news, Spider-Man 3 being a Spider-verse / Sony + Marvel multiverse movies is all but guaranteed. It's a lot less likely that we'll be getting a focus on Eddie Brock, Mac Gargan, or Venom in Spider-Man 3, but Doctor Strange and all the rest of this news certainly opens up some interesting possibilities!

I think this would be a perfect opportunity for Marvel and the MCU to still make use of Venom without interfering with what Sony is doing with Eddie Brock and Tom Hardy! The best part is, that it has a basis in the comics, and the foundations have even (perhaps intentionally?) setup already!
Michael Mando's Mac Gargan will hopefully be able to step into the Venom role after a movie or two as Scorpion!
