Here's how to see messages from Unknown Senders on your iPhone running iOS 26. Find messages from people not in your contacts, whether you’re checking for a missed text or sorting through filtered messages.

“Unknown Senders” are people or services who send you iMessages or SMS texts but aren’t saved in your Contacts app. When filtering is enabled, their messages won’t appear in your primary message inbox, helping reduce clutter and avoid spam.

How To View Messages From 'Unknown Senders' On iPhone In iOS 26:

Step 1: Tap on the green Messages icon on your Home Screen or App Library.

Step 2: At the top-right of the Messages screen, tap Filters. This takes you to a categorized view of your messages.

Step 3: You’ll see different categories like Messages, Unknown Senders, Spam, Recently Deleted, Unread and Manage Filtering.

Tap Unknown Senders to view all messages from people or services not in your contacts.

Turn On "Filter Unknown Senders"

If you don’t see the Filters option, you may need to enable the feature.

Step 1: To Enable, open Settings. Scroll down and tap on "Apps". Here, select "Messages".

Step 2: Scroll to the 'Message Filtering' section. Toggle on "Filter Unknown Senders"

Once this is turned on, Messages will group unknown contacts into a separate inbox.

If you frequently receive messages from someone who shows up under "Unknown Senders," consider saving their contact to keep future messages in your main inbox.

iOS often gives you the option to Report Junk or Spam under unknown messages. Tap it if the message is spam.
