Is the Night Book a good game? / Night Book Full Playthrough & Review
The latest horror game by Wales Interactive (who also developed the not perfect but still quite charming Maid of Sker) is a somewhat FMV desktop horror game about curses, interpreters and the perils of living with your weird dad while your husband is developing building projects on sacred islands.
You basically play as an incredibly insecure interpreter who is pregnant, who wants to impress her boss, who has a boyfriend who seems weirdly like a con man but apparently isn't (?) and who has a dad living with her who is into some really weird stuff, like ancient symbols, curses and being all around loud and too-hyped up. On this fateful night, you accidentally put a curse on yourself and the decisions you make will decide who lives and who doesn't.
Honestly, I enjoyed Maid of Sker a lot more than this game, maybe it's the whole VMF thing. It also didn't help that this game reminded me too much of Simulacrum and Telling Lies which are both a lot better with the gameplay and the storytelling. BUT! I am quite tempted to try this out again since there are apparently a thousand endings and additional scenes possible. Maybe inside all of this is a good game?
Sounds cool? Well, it isn’t! Still, it is a wildly entertaining game, so I don’t regret buying it and hopefully, you won’t regret playing it.
