Haunted island, haunted past / The Keeper Lets Play
5So, this is visually and plot-wise a pretty compelling story but it took me a bit to fully grasp it (I put my theory below under the spoilers-tag in case you don’t want to know until you’ve seen the full lets play. You crash with your boat on an island where the lighthouse is out and you soon find out that you're not alone. Bit by bit, note by note left in weirdly random places you find out what happened with the lighthouse keeper.
I really enjoyed this. It’s not very spooky but still engaging and I did love the visuals, the interior, images and the water texture, for example, are beautiful. I also like that it is not only visually retro but also feels retro when it comes to story voice-over etc. It actually reminded me a little of the (fictitious) game in the TV show “Halt and catch fire” because it also looked like one thing at the beginning but then turned out to be an incredibly emotional journey. All in all, I really liked this.
The game was developed by Comp 3 Interactive and was part of the HPS1 Summer of Shivers Game Jam which is probably why it was developed for the controller (it played slightly awkward with the keyboard but nothing gamebreaking) and why it looks so retro. The dev put a lot of work in the visuals, though, so it's like the very good PS1 games on that account.

So, I really got the story during editing, so my theory is: after the death of the mother/wife, the father completely abandoned his daughter in his grief and ignored her. She asked him to deal with the mother’s loss together by putting flowers on her grave but dad always postponed it. One day, he decided to get the flowers but upon his return, he crashed into the island because the lighthouse - which his daughter probably looked after whenever he was gone - was out. He went to find his daughter dead, having killed herself. He then went to his room and also committed suicide, apologizing to his daughter in one last note. We basically play through his loss as some sort of limbo but the voice of his daughter leading us implies that she urges her father to get out of limbo, forgive what happened and move on.
