A competitor against NERF that failed miserably isn't a new thing. Even in the early 2000s, there were things that tried to reinvent the foam dart and grab some of that sweet outdoor sports marketshare. Trendmaster had their Storm series of Squirt Guns, but branched the brand off into the Light Storm blasters, shooting tough plastic darts using air tanks with double-action hammer-action releases to shoot a whole like 8 feet. Seriously, even though this one doesn't work, apparently they barely worked back in the day. It's a shame because despite some concerns with safety I think the darts have some pretty good ideas going for them that clearly inspired BOOMco over a decade later.
