In this video, Italy 1990 Soccer, released in 1990 for the Atari ST by Code Masters.
And now for our series "Even big software houses do bad games", introducing Italy 1990 Soccer by Code Masters.
I found little informations about this game, maybe the programmers want it to go silently into oblivion, but, unfortunately for them, there are people like me on Youtube who make videos in order to remember every possible bit of ST games. It was released for both Atari ST and Amiga at only £4.99, a very low price for the era. The low price however was the best part of the game according to reviewer Andy Smith of Amiga Format who gave a score of 27% and I agree with him:
Graphically is ok for an early game, but not for a '90 one. To add injury to insult the scrolling is awful, slow and laggy. The game plays really bad, and scoring is laughbly easy.
When I first fired it up, seeing press F1 for ST and F2 for STE made me immediately happy and I thought "good we have an improved version for STE owners", but when I saw the game I thought "wtf man, is this a good use for the blitter and the other STE enhancements? Shame on you ". They only used the additional joystick ports in order to play the game with 4 players in 2 vs 2 teams.
