Today, I show you a water stream design that allows you to use redstone to direct where items in the stream go. Neither design requires pistons, which I believe make them the first of their kind (at least that I could find online).

The first design is a little bit bigger but works in all directions, while the second design is smaller but only works in two directions: the (+X,+Z) and (+X,-Z) directions (for reference, the sun sets in the +Z direction in this version).
