My philosophy on savestates/TAS tools/blind playthroughs/goals etc: By far the most fun way to play any game is blind. It's the same reason I love playing troll levels in Mario Maker: getting tricked by the level creator is hilarious, and if something is not blind, it can't trick you. Therefore, I strongly support blind playthroughs and blind races whenever possible. Fortunately, the vast majority of Kaizo 3 is unspoiled for me (sorry Dode I do watch your stream often I swear ๐Ÿ’š you were just always on bowser when I tuned in xD). When the Yoshi fell from the sky and ripped sweet, sweet victory away from my grasp, it was 9000000% better because I didn't know it was coming.

However, once you have seen something multiple times, I see absolutely no reason to not bust out the science to figure out how to beat it, especially when you are replaying the same part 5000 times. I find this depends a lot on the difficulty of the level. To take mario maker levels as an example, the blind kaizo race levels that we do every saturday are perfect to play without using the editor: it's fun to figure it out on the fly, and there's a sweet spot where the extra time it takes to beat restarting from the beginning each time makes it that much better when you finally get it. However, on the flip side, if the level is really hard, it just becomes tedious and silly to play without editor. Literally no one is going to say it's a good idea to do Val's Airspace or U-Break without using the editor to practice (and no one has done that) -- it's just not efficient. This is pretty much how I feel about TAS tools/savestates/etc. For ridiculously hard levels, using these types of tools are the best way to practice.

But, at the same time, using savestates to actually beat a level is not an interesting accomplishment, and using them to spoil what's coming takes away the surprise in seeing it for the first time. I think savestates are totally fine for people first learning a hard game, but the real feeling of reward comes from beating something from start to finish yourself, so I have no interest in using savestates for anything other than practice. In fact, for me, the ultimate Kaizo 3 achievement is going to be beating the entire game, from start to finish, in a single sitting. That's my final goal.
